I had a wonderful day out yesterday thanks to essexgirlknits, it was lovely getting out for a few hours even if the weather was awful. We started the day visiting a place I had been reading about for a while The Crochet Chain, as an avid crocheter it had always interested me that there was a shop that was crochet centric rather than knit centric. I’d never been to Waltham Abbey before and we managed to find it with out to much difficulty, it is set back from the high street but it is well sign posted and plenty of easy car parking spaces. The street itself reminded me a lot of a seaside town is was completely paved (no traffic) and lots of little alley ways to investigate although we didn’t do a lot of that due to the weather, there did seem to be a healthy number of cafes around for a spot of lunch. The shop itself is a little jewel with a wide selection of yarn for all price ranges from your basic acrylic up to your natural dye studio yarn and lots in between.
There was enough there to keep knitters happy to carrying a good range in all weight and some real bargains to be had, especially in the Drops Yarns to be had as they are having a bit of a sale. Lots of samples worked up both knitting and crochet and for those who like it a wide range of crochet cotton/thread in many colours. The two ladies that were there were lovely and very friendly and obviously very knowledgeable about their stock and I would recommend it for a visit although check their website for opening times.
I managed to come away with just one ball of yarn but will be back when I have more funds 🙂
Second stop on our day trio was indivijewelistic a bead shop in Enfield, another new place to me, the parking for this one I think could be little more tricky but possibly slightly easier by public transport, but we were lucky and managed to get a spot around the corner. Its a beautiful shop with lots of space and good light, the stock itself although varied was for me pretty standard to most bead stores but what they did have was a great selection of seed beads especially toho beads.
The owner again was lovely and very helpful and they had a seperate class room for teaching with again good light which as we know is very important. I managed to come a way with a few bits from there tow but already in use so no pic.
The day was rounded off by a little bit of crafting back at essexgirlknits house in the warm, a lovely day all round.
